Damian Lucero is a gifted artist and former U.S. Marine. He survived combat in Iraq, though he carries the scars of that war in his ongoing battle with post-traumatic stress disorder. His paintings are marketed via identity theft by a former high school basketball teammate, Dunk Landry, who achieves fame and fortune from the deception.
The novel deals with Damian's therapy, his relationship with his girl friend, Angela Fernandez, and his efforts to bring Dunk to justice by unveiling the co-conspiracy by a gallery owner, a state senator, and a political extremist. The plot bounces between Albuquerque and Dallas and offers political and legal intrigue and psychological insight.
"Openings" -- of one's personality, gallery receptions, sudden opportunities.
